La Otra Capa

A double concept worked within the same place, ‘La Otra Capa’ is born because a tension is generated within the huérfanos bridge, located in the foundational triangle of Santiago.
The construction inside the bridge and its surroundings creates a tension in the local population that marks both the internal and external route of the place, due to what can happen in its route, accesses and central point. At the same time, the location of the original project creates an attention-grabbing effect on the surrounding area, connecting two cable points of the city by crossing one of the largest and most important motorways in the region. For the development of the first project, a 1:1 scale installation is created where the internal transit of the bridge is obstructed with a linen fabric, creating new internal walls that allow the route to be altered and at the same time generate completely new experiences to the current monotony. After this, the proposal and development of the project proposes the aerial route of the sector, which connects key encounters of the pedestrian block, allowing the exploration of new alternative routes and programmes within the daily life of Santiago Centro. Following the rhythm of the original streets, crossing them through the heights and at the same time allowing to rest at all times with safety and use meshes. This new layer breaks with the hyper-productionism that houses the entire centre of Santiago, being a space that adopts the current and defies it. It is possible to have only one access.
